Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence and machine learning are not new concepts. In fact, many applications have been around for decades. Unfortunately, many AI and ML solutions have felt out of reach for many middle market organizations. However, those times are rapidly changing as technology matures and presents more realistic opportunities for all companies to take advantage of increased efficiency and insight through automation.

ChatGPT was launched on November 30, 2022, by San Francisco–based OpenAI, also the creator of DALL. E 2 and Whisper AI. The service was initially free to the public and the company had planed to monetize the service later. By January, ChatGPT had amassed 100 million monthly active users only two months into its launch, making it the fastest-growing consumer application in history, according to a UBS who published a report that same month.

It took TikTok nine months to reach 100 million users and Instagram two and a half years. And Jan. 31 was the biggest-ever day for ChatGPT, with its website garnering a record 28 million daily visits, according to data from Similarweb. That was up 165% from a month earlier.

In the "60 Minutes" segment below, CBS News reporter Scott Pelley looks at the world of AI through the lens of Google.

In 2023, we have learned that a machine taught itself how to speak to humans like a peer. Which is to say, with creativity, truth, error and lies. The technology, is only one of the recent breakthroughs in artificial intelligence -- machines that can teach themselves superhuman skills.

Scott Pelley explores what's coming next at Google. CEO Sundar Pichai discusses with Scott Pelley how AI will be as good or as evil as human nature allows.

The revolution, he says, is coming faster than you know.
