Bill Werkmeister
Investment Advisor
William (Bill) Werkmeister is a career social impact
venture capitalist with a current focus on the life
science and technology sectors. He is currently
working on raising a new life science venture fund
focused on oncology, cardiology, and neurology. Bill is
a Co-Founding Partner of HRN, a multifamily office
focused on investing in venture capital, fixed income
alternatives, and real estate, where he runs the venture
capital vertical. Representative investments include
SpaceX, Stripe, aiScout, Immunicom, Geneius
Biotechnology, 25Madison, Apricity Health, Dazzle Now, and SciTech Development,
among others. Bill also founded one of the preeminent investor conferences in the
biotechnology and medical technology spaces designed to help early-stage companies
raise financing from funds, foundations, family offices, and high net worth individuals.
Earlier in his career, he helped launch a number of media properties, including MediaWerks, the publishing and events company of the National Foundation for Cancer Research, which produced events for the foundation, published its magazine Research to Remission, created its online content, and managed its online advertising and fundraising. He was also a Parter in Texas Family Magazine, Texas’ statewide parenting and family values magazine. Bill was also a Founding Partner of BoldTV, a streaming news media outlet launched in concert with Al Rocker studios designed to bring politically neutral, unbiased coverage regarding news, politics, business, and lifestyle to millennials.
Bill was also a co-founder of Covia Health, a mobile breast tomosynethesis business in the Southern United States designed to increase breast screening rates by bringing screening services to the workplace.
Earlier his career, at the age of 26, Bill co-founded Aegis Texas Ventures and Aegis New York Ventures, public-private partnership, venture capital funds associated with the States of Texas and New York. Well-known investments include Sweet Leaf Tea and Commerciant (the first mobile credit card and check processing device). Prior to Aegis, Bill was Vice President of Capital Raising at Newtek, a $1 billion plus venture fund, and Treasurer of its portfolio company Newtek Small Business Finance, then the largest non-bank SBA lender in the country.
Prior to Newtek, Bill was an investment banking analyst with Salomon Smith Barney and Citigroup Global Markets, where he worked on over $7 billion in capital raises as well as offering M&A advisory services.
Bill currently serves on the board or advisory board of the National Foundation for Cancer Research, Scitech Development, SageMedic Corporation, Geneius Biotechnology, and Apricity Health. He formally served on the board or advisory boards of Immunicom, the Children’s Aid Society of New York, and Houston Achievement Place.
Bill holds a Bachelor of Science degree summa cum laude from Cornell University, an MPA with a focus on economic policy from Harvard and an MBA from Yale. He also pursued research and graduate/professional studies at the London School of Economics and Political Science and New York University. In his spare time, Bill enjoys hiking, travel, and is an avid photographer. He is also studying to obtain his scuba certification.
